I finally got it to go when I downloaded a simple VXD file for my AGP slot that it never asked for. Suddenly Windows (and more importantly Direct3D) and my Games want to run flawlessly. Star Wars (Phantom Menace & POD Racer) work great as does Need for Speed 3, and a couple of old games that needed DirectX.
